So I’m currently on a fairly healthy kick with my cooking. In about 3 weeks I am headed to Chicago with my boyfriend for his brother’s wedding. Which means I’m meeting his entire family for the first time. Which also means I’m in the “oh crap I’ve got to eat healthy and workout every day, so I look good” mode. His family seems amazing, and I don’t have anything to be worried about, but let’s face it, being a couple of lbs lighter and having a bit more muscle tone wouldn’t hurt.
I have tried following certain diets such as paleo, keto, low carb, fruit only, chicken broth detox, eat a cube of cheese when you feel like you’re going to pass out, heck I even did a “tomato only diet” once. They are all complicated and confusing to me and basically just takes too much time and effort in my opinion. So when I go on my “need to lose 5 lbs diet”, I try just to eat clean and get some cardio in. The best way to put it is, I try not to eat anything that comes in a package. When that pop tart is calling your name, walk away. That means no pasta in a box either (sigh, see you later carbs). Keep it simple, easy to follow. Eat whole, clean foods. Things that you can say, I know exactly what this is, what’s in it, and preferably that it came out of the ground or off of a tree. I tend to stick with chicken and fish for meats and as many veggies as possible and a little fruit. I am an extreme chocoholic so I pretty much always add some dark chocolate into the mix as well to keep my self (and everyone around me) happy. I realize that if you are trying to get ready for a bikini competition or have certain diet restrictions, this may not work for you. But I just want to look decent in a dress and feel good. So it works for me. On Monday’s I generally go to the grocery and do some meal prep. I actually enjoy the meal prep part. I turn Kings of Leon Pandora radio on and go to town. I chop up my veggies and some fruit for the week and put them in ziplock bags, cook some chicken breasts and make some granola bars. My kitchen time relaxes me. My sister jokes that if I am cooking a lot (generally cupcakes or cookies), I must be stressed or nervous about something. After all, stressed is desserts spelled backward.
